Bonanno: A Godfather’s Story (1999)

An aging Joe Bonanno visits present-day Sicily and reflects on his life. Sent to America to escape Mussolini’s fascists, Joe at first struggles to make ends meet as a barber, but then a Mob-connected cousin helps him gain entry into the world of organized crime. Bonanno becomes a successful bootlegger, despite competition from the ambitious Joe Kennedy. A bloody war between Mob factions wipes out Bonanno’s beloved mentor and places the 26-year-old at the head of the Castellamarese crime family. Quickly organizing “The Commission,” Joe gains stature by bringing peace and prosperity to the New York Mafia. As the years pass, Bonanno’s authority is tested by betrayals within his family, at the hands of the government during WWII, his old foe Joe Kennedy, and his own failing health. He becomes one of the few bosses to retire successfully from a life of organized crime.

Gouken and Gouki both learned a very deadly form of karate from their master Goutetsu. This dangerous style can awaken the “Satsui no Hadou” in its practitioners. Gouken tried to remove these dangerous elements when he taught Ryu and Ken. But Gouki succumbed to the evil and killed Gouken. Years later, Ryu and Ken reunite at their master’s grave. Ryu has secretly been showing signs of the Satsui no Hado. They are even more surprised when a boy named Shun shows up, claiming to be Ryu’s long-lost brother! Then Shun also shows signs of the Satsui no Hadou. And Shun tells Ryu that their father also succumbed to the evil! A secret organization (Shadowlaw perhaps?) seeks to awaken this power in Ryu and harness it.

Taal (1999)

On a sight-seeing road trip of India, U.K. based Manav Mehta meets Mansi, the daughter of a singer, Tarababu. He is attracted to her, and makes his attraction known. She also is attracted to him eventually. Her dad approves of Manav, and both go to Bombay to meet his family. On their arrival itself, they are shunned and treated as second class citizens, and this lasts throughout the day, with the treatment getting worst at every point. Both decide to leave. Mansi decides to improve her career, leaving the past behind, and meets with Vikrant Kapoor, who helps her get started. Both see each other regularly, and soon decide to get married. In the meantime, Manav has not given up hope to marry Mansi, despite opposition from his and her families. Manav relentlessly purses his dream of marrying Mansi, even on the day of her marriage to Vikrant.

Adapted from William Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew,” 10 Things I Hate About You starts off with Cameron, new student at Padua High, sitting in the office of the quirky guidance counselor Ms. Perky. He is then shown around the school by Michael, who will become his best friend. During his tour is when Cameron first sees Bianca Stratford, a beautiful sophomore with one problem: she isn’t allowed to date. And neither is her “shrew” sister, Katarina, a senior who loves indie rock and feminist prose and hates conformity. But Kat and Bianca’s father alter’s his house rule: now, Bianca can date… as long as Kat has a date, too. Now, in order for Cameron to date Bianca, he has to find someone to date Kat. So Michael helps him enlist the help of pretty-boy/jerk/model Joey Donner, tricking him into thinking that *he* will get to take Bianca out if he pays someone to take out Kat. His choice: Patrick Verona, a bad-boy with a mysterious reputation–some say he ate a live duck once, others that he lit a state trooper on fire, and even more claim that he had a brief porn career. Will Patrick win Kat’s heart? Will Cameron win Bianca’s? Or will everything hit the fan…?

Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies (1999)

Andrew Divoff returns as the evil Djinn bent on world domination in this direct-to-video sequel to Wishmaster. Released from his prison gem during a failed museum robbery, Djinn transforms from a gooey blob to a demon in human form after granting his first venom-laced wish and takes the rap for the heist and a couple of murders. Meanwhile Morgana (Holly Fields, looking like a B-movie version of Angelina Jolie, without the lips) is haunted by nightmares of the demon and discovers the meaning behind his command, “Fulfill the prophecy”: he needs to bag 1,000 souls and then he’s Armageddon bound. Like its predecessor, Wishmaster 2 twists the classic genie-in-the-lamp legend into a sick joke; every wish is granted in the most literal terms, leaving the recipients victims of their own greed and desire in often gory spectacles. The budgetary constraints are evident in the more ambitious effects, notably a calamity of biblical proportions in a Las Vegas casino with computer-animated locusts and unconvincing dismemberments. Divoff makes a low-rent Freddy Krueger, tossing off pale quips with a tight grin and in a raspy, self-important monotone in this A Nightmare on Elm Street knockoff. Best to stick with the real thing.

Jim, Oz, Finch and Kevin are four friends who make a pact that before they graduate they will all lose their virginity. The hard job now is how to reach that goal by prom night. Whilst Oz begins singing to grab attention and Kevin tries to persuade his girlfriend, Finch tries any easy route of spreading rumors and Jim fails miserably. Whether it is being caught on top of a pie or on the Internet, Jim always end up with his trusty sex advice from his father. Will they achieve their goal of getting laid by prom night? or will they learn something much different.
