Paruthiveeran (2007)

The story is set in a rural area around Madurai. The village is called Parithiyur where Paruthiveeran lives with his doting uncle — father’s brother, (Saravanan). The name paruthiveeran means cotton hero, probably derived from the fact that the hero used to work in an under garment factory which extensively uses cotton. He shapes up as a brutal bully and leads a care-free life. Muthazhagu (Priyamani) loves him more than her life, but he remains unmoved and keeps her at bay. At times he is violent too. When he understands her true love for him and decides to marry her, the feud between the two families comes in the way. Determined as he is to possess her, he warns her against marrying anyone else on the insistence of her father or mother. He even threatens to cut her into pieces. Undeterred by his threats, her parents press ahead with the preparations for her marriage with a man of their choice. But she resists and musters courage to elope with Paruthiveeran. What follows forms a climax which shocks everyone alike. While Muthazhagu succumbs to fate’s deadly game, Paruthiveeran has no choice but to let everyone believe (falsely and fatefully) that he is a madman.

Murli Manohar is a barber in a small town in India. He would like his son, Amar, to take over his business. But Amar is a slacker and a day-dreamer, who dreams of making it big in Bollywood movies and getting rich quick. When Amar finds out that a rich heiress, Raveena, is looking for a groom to marry, he decides to go and try his luck. On the way there, he meets with another slacker by the name of Prem, who is the son of a tailor named Bankeylal Bhopali. Prem is also on his way to meet Raveena and attempt to convince her to marry him. When both find out that they are after the same woman, they decide to outdo each other to win over Raveena’s affections. Unsure of what groom, she is going to marry, Raveena asks her secretary, Karisma, to pose has herself, while she assumes her name. The result is hilarious chaos.

Ben Gates comes from a family of treasure hunters. Now his grandfather believes that the forefathers’ buried a treasure somewhere in the country and have placed clues everywhere but unfortunately the clues are highly cryptic and scaterred all over the place. Now Ben thinks he has found it but it only leads him to another clue which is on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Now one of his associates Ian wants to steal it so that they could get the clue but Ben refuses to do it so he tries to kill Ben. But Ben evades him and tries to warn the authorities about Ian’s plans but they don’t believe him. So Ben takes it upon himself to steal it in order to protect it. And he does but Abigail Chase the curator of the National Archives, where it is kept, discovers what he has done and tries to stop him but gets caught in the crossfire between Ben and Ian, so Ben takes her with him. While she doesdn’t believe him, he is determined to prove he is right about the treasure. But it won’t be easy cause Ian’s always a step behind him and he is being hunted by the FBI.

But once he gets there, Craig and Day-Day have a set of suburban misadventures that make his South Central experiences look tame.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)

Charlie Bucket is a young boy who comes from a poor but loving family and would love nothing more than to find a golden ticket to enter the amazing chocolate factory run by inventor and owner Willy Wonka. As luck would have it, Charlie finds the last golden ticket and goes on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure with his grandpa Joe. Among the other four winners are Veruca Salt, a spoiled rich girl; Augustus Gloop, a gluttonous kid who stuffs his face with sweets; Violet Beuragarde, a champion trophy gum chewer; and Mike Teavee, a kid who spends more time watching TV and playing video games than anything else. Most fascinating is the mysterious Willy Wonka who in turn had a troubled childhood and has a special grand prize at the end for one of the kids. Also along the tour are Wonka’s staff the singing, working Oommpa Loompas.

After leaving the prison, the dwarf criminal Calvin Sims joins to his moron brother Percy to steal an expensive huge diamond in a jewelry for the mobster Walken. They are chased by the police, and Calvin hides the stone in the purse of the executive Vanessa Edwards, whose husband Darryl Edwards wants to have a baby. Percy convinces Calvin to dress like a baby and be left in front of the Edwards’s house to get inside the house and retrieve the diamond. Darryl and Vanessa keep Calvin for the weekend and decide to adopt him, while Walken threatens Darryl to get the stone back.

Semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story in which a teen, on assignment from Rolling Stone Magazine, tours with a late 60’s rock band while supposedly interviewing them, much to the chagrin of his mother.

Marty, (Josh Hamilton) a college student in New York, decides to pay his family a visit in their ancient and imposing house in D.C. He makes two mistakes, one is bringing his fiance, Lesly (Tori Spelling) with him, and the other is coming at all. As soon as he gets home things begin to go wrong, and although the mother, Mrs. Pascal (Geneviève Bujold) hides the kitchen knives, she isn’t able to prevent disaster. It soon becomes clear that Marty and his sister, the unbalanced Jackie-O (Parker Posey) are just a little too affectionate towards each other, and everything untoward that could happen, does, in this unusual comedy about a house where the word “no” is never heard.
